Pappy’s Fun Club are Britain’s best new sketch troupe. At the 2007 Edinburgh Festival they earned an If.Comedy nomination for Best Show. This led to appearances on BBC3’s Comedy Shuffle, Radio 1’s Switch and ITV’s Comedy Cuts. This year they starred in both their own self-titled show on Radio 4, and the half hour special, “Pappy’s Fun Club”, on Channel 4. LEGENDARY SHOCKWAVES NME AWARDS TOUR 2009 ANNOUNCED

GLAS VEGAS, FRIENDLY FIRES, WHITE LIES &
FLORENCE AND THE MACHINE TAKE TO THE ROAD

It has discovered the likes of Muse, The Killers and the Arctic Monkeys and next year’s Shockwaves NME Awards Tour is back and bigger than ever! Scooping the much coveted headline slot are electrifying Scottish rebel rousers Glasvegas, who are set to kick off 2009 in style by taking their uplifting indie anthems to seventeen towns across the country this New Year.

Offering formidable support are Hertfordshire indie-dance outfit Friendly Fires, West London three piece White Lies, and flamboyant South London songstress Florence And The Machine, in what is undeniably one of the strongest line ups music fans have seen in a long time.

Since winning the prestigious Philip Hall Radar Award at last year’s Shockwaves NME Awards, Glasvegas have been tipped for the top by industry insiders, the release of the self-titled debut album storming to number two in early September. Frontman James Allan said: “We’ll bring champagne instead of Buckfast. Imagine Motley Crue on an NME Awards tour!”

Following closely behind, Friendly Fires guitarist Edd Gibson gives a nod to some interesting collaborations whilst on the road: “We might get a ‘Feed The World’-style thing going on!”

Meanwhile White Lies fuels rumours of on-stage partnerships with singer Harry McVeigh declaring: “We get on well with Glasvegas and Friendly Fires. We’ve got something in mind…”

Kicking off proceedings with the opening slot, Florence And The Machine is keen to bring some friendly banter to the tour bus, Florence adding: “It’s good to have some rivalry. We’ll all be trying to outdo each other, which pushes each band to be better!”

Conor McNicholas, editor of NME said: “This is a cracking line-up of deeply talented artists who produce music of real quality. All four acts boast the strongest and most distinctive new songwriters in Britain at the moment and the sheer quality of artists on the tour has meant it is being hailed as the strongest for years. Robin Ince presents his brand new stand up show mixing up stories of childbirth, Charles Darwin, Carl Sagan, crazed fundamentalists, a TV fight with Vanessa Feltz and the story of the poo fairy.

In the last few months you may have heard Robin on The News Quiz, Just A Minute, Loose Ends , The Now Show or Armando Ianucci’s Charm Offensive. His TV credits include Mock the Week, The Office, Never Mind the Buzzcocks, Lab Rats, oh and Richard and Judy. His two tours supporting Ricky Gervais have led to two bizarre documentaries on Fame and Politics.

Following a tour of the UK and Europe, and a show at the BBC Electric Proms, The Streets will play two shows in January 2009 - Liverpool Academy on Thursday 22nd and Lincoln Engine Shed on Friday 23rd.

Six years ago The Streets’ Mercury Prize-nominated debut album Original Pirate Material seem to emerge from nowhere and established Mike Skinner as a witty and original MC-ing proposition – a motor-mouthed phoenix from the ashes of the UK garage scene.

Over the last three albums Skinner has established himself as one of the most innovative, pioneering UK artists of his generation. UK top ten album Everything Is Borrowed is a reminder of why we all fell in love with The Streets, a charming, thoughtful and incisive album, it somehow melds the very best parts of the last three albums but still sounds refreshingly new.
