It was opened in September 2006 with the arrival of new students and takes its name from the locomotive sheds that used to lie in its current location, immediately adjacent to the railway lines. The venue sees bands play and then opens to the students as a nightclub following the bands performance.
The venue has a capacity of 1,500 in the main hall side and approxiametely 800 in the Upper and Lower Tower Bars. A recent addtion to the Tower Bars is the Hubb (formerly known as the POD) and is a quiet area with a wireless internet connection and 42″ LCD TV’s which can be used for group presentations.
It has hosted a number of high-profile rock bands including Stereophonics, Embrace, The Zutons, The Charlatans, Beautiful South, LostAlone, Deftones, Shiny Toy Guns, Babyshambles, Athlete, Kings of Leon, Dirty Pretty Things and The Damned. It is part of the University of Lincoln’s campus and lies next to the studentlibrary.
The Engine Shed is also home to the University of Lincoln’s Students Union and SOAP Centre.
